Kevin Hart has issued a new apology for offending LGBTI people over resurfaced homophobic tweets.
However, for some the apology might come off as sarcastic, as he refers to himself in the third person in it.
Speaking on the Kevin Hart’s Laugh Out Loud Radio show, he said: ‘I will say this, and I want to make this very clear.
‘[…] Once again, Kevin Hart apologizes for his remarks that hurt members of the LGBTQ community. I apologize.’
He furthermore added that the words of his previous apologies had been ‘chopped up’.
He later added a ‘but…’, saying: ‘If the fight from the LGBTQ community is equality…I’m riding with you guys. I understand it. But in the fight for equality, that means that there has to be an acceptance for change. If you don’t want to accept people for their change, then…where does the equality part come in?’
‘If I can prevent my son from being gay, I will’
The star stepped down as the host of the upcoming Oscars ceremony when old tweets such as ‘If I can prevent my son from being gay, I will’ he once said during a comedy show’ became headline news in early December.
He also wrote in 2010: ‘U ever see a woman so horrible built that it makes u feel gay looking at her body? Lmao yess ol grace jones looking ass woman.’
TV host Ellen Degeneres then generated controversy by interviewing Kevin on her show after the fall out last week.
‘You’ve grown, you’ve apologized’
She publicly backed Hart to be reinstated as host of the Oscars, saying: ‘I know you’re not that guy, because I know you.
‘I think it’s perfect that all this happened. Because there has to be a conversation about homophobia.’
She furthermore added: ‘You’ve grown, you’ve apologized, you’re apologizing again right now, you’ve done it. Don’t let those people win, host the Oscars.’
